Top five social media tips I learned from Guy Kawasaki
The second tip from Guy Kawasaki about social media is to learn how to engage with your audience. First we need to learn how to be tactical, meaning how to format our information for the different social media channels. For Twitter our posts should be up to 100 characters long. For Facebook and Google+, two to three sentences will be the perfect length. For our blog 500 – 1000 words will be a good length. However, the majority of readers prefer posts of about 100 – 250 words. Posts have to also be placed on a consistent schedule. Beautiful images are essential and they need to be able to scale up or down and preview on different devices.
Second in our post we need to provide a large volume of valuable information. We can write our own information as well as share interesting topics we have read. Websites such as alltop.com, sway.com and feedly.com can be a wonderful way to provide valuable content that has proven interesting for thousands of customers. You need to feed the content monster and sharing is a way to engage with your audience.
You need to be personal as well. To connect on a personal level with your audience you need to take a personal stand on topics even for controversial topics.
Last, we need to remember that communication is a two way street. To engage with customers we need to reply to their comments. Be proactive and search for posts that mention your name on Twitter, Google +, Facebook, Instagram, etc, and then connect with these customers by replying to their posts. Always be positive on Social Media. If you cannot agree with a comment, place feedback but always end on a positive note.
